| This picture portrays the invention the astrolabe, created during the time of the Renaissance. Back then sailors were our exploring for new routes and land masses, but they didn't want to get lost at sea. So the astrolabe was invented. The astrolabe gave explorers a way to check their latitude at sea, and never get lost. This way if explorers found new land, they would know how to get back to it after claiming it as their own. Also sailors could now go out to sea and find areas rich with fish, and by having the latitude they could return there and fish again. Economically this gave people better access to new routes, that could potentially make them money and or save them money. Politically rulers could send out messengers to convert foreigners to their religion and teach them their beliefs. Overall the astrolabe opened new and grand opportunities for explorers and sailors. |
This painting portrays Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Indies. It shows men scattered along a beach with trees of in the distance and large mountains in the background. Also in the water there are ships called caravels, that Columbus used on his long expeditions. The caravel is a ship with three masts with square and triangular sails attached. This made the ship more easily maneuverable in the strong waters of the seas. This way Columbus and other explorers could travel safer and quicker in the dangerous waters. Economically the caravel enabled explorers and sailors to travel more easily and quickly, saving them valuable time and money. Politically rulers could have better military speed and power at sea. So overall the caravel was a very useful invention for many different people during the time of the Renaissance. |
This picture shows another very useful invention, from the time of the Renaissance. It is the magnetic compass, that is still used commonly now and days. The magnetic compass enabled explorers and sailors to keep track of the direction they were headed. Columbus utilized the compass on his exploration looking to find the quick route to Asia. Unfortunately technology was not available during that time period. The compass gave explorers a huge leap economically, because they could now know where they were headed and save time and money while trading all over the world. Also politically rulers could send out messengers to convey their messages to foreigners about religious beliefs and laws. Soon everyone was using the compass, and finding faster and more efficient routes to new lands. |
